The Huangpu Taste restaurant is located in an office building in Shanghai's Lujiazui CBD, the heart of China's economic powerhouse. Unlike typical restaurants, Huangpu Taste is not open to the public but serves as a space for internal receptions and dining, allowing office workers to reduce travel time and improve work efficiency.
The design of Huangpu Taste is characterized by abstract forms of mountains, stones, water reflections, and fish shadows. These elements, though seemingly silent, create a sense of harmony and tranquility. The ceiling is covered with wood veneer, reminiscent of a cozy wooden house, while the oxidized copper facing on the walls adds a unique texture that cannot be replicated. The rattan materials used for the chairs tell a story of time and invite guests to embrace the present moment.
With a total area of 650 square meters, Huangpu Taste offers a unique dining experience. The repetition of vertical lines in the box space creates a sense of order and regularity, reminiscent of a bamboo forest. Guests can enjoy their meals while feeling surrounded by nature, as if they were drinking by a gently curved stream.
The design process for Huangpu Taste began in November 2018 and was completed in October 2019. The project aimed to integrate traditional elements into the modern CBD building, adding a touch of warmth and tradition to the fast-paced working environment of urban elites. The result is a space that combines a sense of ritual with a fun and inviting atmosphere.
The Huangpu Taste restaurant has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. The design of Huangpu Taste truly exemplifies these qualities, making it a standout in the world of restaurant design.
